Model GAM-18
Continuous Wrist Strap Monitor

Features:

The Pilgrim Model GAM-18 is the most reliable Continuous Wrist Strap Monitor available today.  It ensures product protection at the workstation, saves time testing and logging daily, and simplifies ESD audits.

Monitoring wrist straps continuously 1) detects wrist strap failures the moment they occur and 2) detects intermittencies due to loosely worn wrist straps or loose snap connections.  Testing wrist straps daily does neither.

Grounding everything that is groundable is one of the cornerstones of ESD control programs.  People generate electricity whenever they move, hence it is critically important to ground them in order to prevent body voltage build-up, since this can damage ESD-sensitive electronic devices.

Rugged - Reliable - Economical - Compact - Foolproof

The Pilgrim Model GAM-18 continuously monitors any ordinary single wire wrist strap.  Its unique impedance-based circuitry is sensitive enough to monitor a 5th percentile female, essentially a 5' tall, 90lb. woman, as well as a 95th percentile male, a 6' 5" tall, 250lb. man.  Combining this performance range with fast response and insensitivity to the effects of squeezing or stretching the coil cord makes the GAM-18 a highly dependable and cost effective instrument.  No adjustments are required.

The GAM-18 is powered by a Wall Plug-In Transformer.  The transformer also connects the monitor to the equipment grounding conductor in the branch circuit (the green or green/yellow wire) when it is plugged into an AC outlet.  Wall Plug-In Transformers do not ordinarily provide this grounding connection.  No additional wiring is needed.

The GAM-18 automatically self-tests when it is plugged in.  When a person plugs a coil cord into the Pilgrim Model GAM-18 Monitor, an electronic switch within the banana jack activates the system.  If the person is wearing a wrist strap and his/her resistance is within the specified limits, the monitor's red LED turns off and its green LED turns on.  If continuity is lost at any time thereafter, due to a coil cord break, loose wrist strap, etc., the alarm sounds, the green LED turns off and the red LED turns on; all in less than 50 milliseconds.

When the coil cord is withdrawn from the monitor's banana jack, the green LED turns off, the red LED turns on and the alarm sounds for six seconds.  The red LED remains on thereafter.
