Footwear Tester

An easy-to-use, low cost tester confirms the integrity
and safety of the static discharge path from the
operator to earth ground via foot grounding systems.

By touching the Test Button on the Model GAM-3, a person standing on a grounded surface can quickly and easily insure that his/her Foot Grounding System contains adequate current limiting resistance and that there is continuity from one's skin to earth ground.

This test complies with the ANSI-Z41 Standard for SD Type 1 Static Dissipative Footwear. Further, when the GAM-3 is plugged into an AC outlet the yellow LED lights if the polarity is correct and the path to earth pround via the eqipment grounding conductor (the green wire) is connected. If either condition isn't met, the yellow LED flashes.

An optional Foot Plate Model FP-22 enables testing Footwear when the floor is not grounded.

Three LEDs indicate resistance level:

        Yellow - High Fail, more than 100 megohms
        Green - Pass, between 1 megohm and 100 megohms
        Red - Low Fail, less than 1 megohm

The limits are factory set and can be varied to meet User requirements.

Calibration

The long term drift of the Model GAM-3 is less than 0.1% per decade, the first decade being 1 hour. Hence, the drift is approximately 0.5% in 10 years.

Confirmation of the limit settings, of reverse polarity detection and earth ground path verification via the equipment grounding conductor can be performed with the Model CVU-3 Calibration Verification Unit. The resistance values therein are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Alternatively, the Model GAM-3 can be functionally tested with a 3 to 2 AC plug adapter and a suitable resistance decade box.

Certificate of Conformance

A Certificate of Conformance traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) confirming that the instrument meets published specifications is available with all new equipment upon request. There is no charge for this certificate.

*GAM-3 Upper Resistance Limit is 50 megohms +-5%. Upper and Lower Limit settings can be varied to meet User requirements. They are factory set and are traceable to the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST).
